NAME: Lores Giglio

JOB TITLE: Session Stylist

WHERE DID YOU START YOUR CAREER?
I suppose in some respects I had little choice but to become a hairdresser or makeup artist as my mum was a hairdresser all my life and it's the only thing I ever knew. Even as a toddler I would shun dolls and games of ‘Doctors & Nurses' or ‘Shop', preferring to cajole the other kids into letting me play with their hair in my own game invention of ‘Hair Salon'. I began hairdressing at the tender age of 14 in 1990, later supplemented that with makeup qualifications and have never looked back. I now realise that such a career is far more than an expression of creativity - its higher purpose is to give something back to humanity through the humble ambition to transform people's self-esteem.

I have been hairdressing for 20 years, and not a day goes by where I think what am I doing, but each day my love and passion for life and work grow. I was highly trained in a Salon in Adelaide at Dare and Dare hair where I specialized in cutting for 8 years, then I moved to the big smoke in 2001 and followed the passion in Styling where I had to be at Brad Ngata Hair Direction, where the world of styling become endless and my dream grew and continued.......

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I love that I make money from what I love doing the most and that's playing with hair. Does not matter where when why I just do it! I love that I have created a lifestyle not a job. I love that I constantly meet new people and get to experience amazing locations all around the world and my second passion would be traveling!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR AVERAGE DAY, WHAT DO YOU DO?
Everyday is a different day! I could be on a film set doing Australian Idol. I could be doing an advertising photo shoot, TV commercial, film clip or Educational workshops where I teach other hairdressers around Australia and NZ to cut hair and inspire them with my story! But an average day is checking in with my agent daily to get details for my next job!

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DREAD DOING?
Having nothing to do! It drives me crazy. I love being busy. Getting up early... ha ha ha, I'm not a morning person. When I directed Romance Was Born we had a 3.30am start and for my last Men's Health shoot we were up at 3.30am to get to the beach to shoot 12 topless men, with the sun rising. Tough job but someone has to do it!!!!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER SOMEONE WANTING A CAREER IN FASHION?
My advice would be focus on what you want and go for it!! Never let anyone tell you, YOU CAN'T DO IT!  You can, but it's not easy.  Success is not luck, it's years of hard work; starting with a positive attitude add patience, persistence and passion and you will succeed!!!!!! My drive and determination keeps me going and the never stop learning attitude keeps opening new doors, ones you never thought existed. The aim in my career is to stay happy and keep enjoying everything that I do. Passion is with me forever and it got me to where I am now. I am living the dream job!

IS IT WHAT YOU KNOW OR WHO YOU KNOW?
It can be both.. but if you can deliver high quality work all the time then you will always have work, if it's just who you know then eventually work drops off and they work it out...

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I like to think that I am constantly pushing the boundaries of my profession. I find it's easy to maintain the passion because I get to collaborate with scores of other passionate and inspirational people including esteemed photographers and fashion designers. In my career I've been fortunate enough to have traveled the world, had work credited in major media including every major Australian glossy and on TV. I've been recognized with industry awards, and have been up close and personal with some of Australia's most fabulous celebrities! Sometimes I still pinch myself when I'm called onto a job and I find myself working with one of my idols.
