When Australian Designer Marnie Skillings launched her 08/09 range at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week this year, she was in familiar territory. Titled 'Wishbone', the runway was graced with Marnie's stunning soft sheer fabrics and dreamy laces that make up her successful collection.

It was in May 2000 that Marnie Skillings first showed her 'Eponymous' label at Australian Fashion Week as part of the graduate show, showcasing designs by the Design School at East Sydney Technical College in Sydney's Darlinghurst.

Marnie's career first began at a boutique in Sydney's Chatswood Shopping Center. As a Sales Assistant for 'Entity', Skillings also assisted with some of the selection and buying of the stores collections.

Inspired by the drama, romance and sheer beauty of Alber Elbaz collections for Lanvin. Marnie has grown and 9 years on she is regularly featured in Harpers Bazaar, Vogue, Nylon, Marie Claire & Instyle. And her designs have been seen on Celebrity clients including Kylie Minogue, Mischa Barton and the Veronicas - who wore her designs on the Red Carpet in 2008.

Marnie started her label slowly. She continued to work at Entity while building her brand, and took the leap into her own business once she had done the groundwork. It is clear from Marnie's success that her sound business plan, design training and Business training has given her the foundation to be successful today. So it's no wonder that Marnie recommends training and knowledge as the key to making it in fashion. It's the combined knowledge of design and business that is the secret to her success.
