Meet the gorgeous Gisu, launching at AFW in 2006 this inspirational designer hasn’t looked back. We caught up with her to get the low down on her inspirational launch into fashion and the secrets of her success…
Where did you start your career?
I started my career in 2006 and launched my first collection at the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. I had an unbelievable interest from buyers and media.
What do you love about your job?
The process of designing and being fortunate enough to travel overseas twice a year to develop my collection with my team, this experience by far is the highlight of my job. I love the process of my vision coming to life
Tell us about your average day what do you do?
I start my day by answering the never ending emails to buyers, suppliers, my sampling team and production team. If I'm not designing or sampling a new collection I'm finalising production. In addition my day is usually booked out with appointments; I have a very close relationship with my buyers, suppliers and sampling team so I'm always present at all meetings. If I do have a few moment spare during the day (which is really rare) I like to do some research on the fashion around the world.
Is there anything you dread doing?
YES!!!! Paper work and dealing with unnecessary mistakes
Your advice to someone wanting a fashion career?
Make sure that you truly do have a love, passion and dedication to this industry, as it’s not the easiest industry to be in. Nothing is more important than waking up every morning and looking forward to going to work.
Is it what you know or who you know?
I think they’re both are as important as each other, if you don't have a clue or talent for this line of work, it doesn't really matter who you know, there is only so much that people can do for you. On the other hand you could be very talented and don't know the right people which may make it difficult for you to reach the next step in your career.
What inspires you?
So many things every day inspire me, from seeing the unique style of people in the street, to the colours and prints on fabrics and beautiful locations that make me day dream.
All these inspirations help me create a collection.
