I know that it seems fickle but you would be surprised as to how many people bomb out in a job interview for a minor etiquette, mannerism or social whoopsies...
We all know that it is impossible to fully understand the character and expectations of someone when we don't know them, but there are a few no no's that might give you the edge at your next interview... Here is my top 10, but then again, your top ten might be different... I'll give it a go, see if you are with me or not!
- Chewing gum... Not a great idea to chew while being interviewed... if they are concentrating on you they will see the chewie for sure...
- The wrong shoes... ie. Runner's and a suit, thongs (unless it is a super casual brand) or simply smelly old ones..
- Going to an interview with a full on snotty cold and blowing your nose constantly (best you cancel for another day)...
- Nail biting or fingers in your mouth, yep people have been known to do it! Oh and severely chipped nail polish could also cost you...
- A seriously revealing cleavage - better for the Oscars or Red Carpet, showing too much could get you the job for the wrong reasons..
- Bossing the boss, interviews are not the time to assert power and show traits of being a coup leader!
- Answering your phone - leaving the ringer on can be forgiven, but answering it is quite unforgiving...
- Really late without an apology or a call - I am talking plus 20 minutes...
- Cigarette breath and nicotine hands... A quick ciggie before an interview is a no no!
- The big 2 litre water bottle... I am all for hydration but taking the dam into an interview and then having a swig throughout is not happening!
