A Winners experience

Sara is one of our Holy Grail competition winners and she has now moved to Melbourne to take up the glamorous role of Assistant Buyer of Lingerie. We caught up with Sara for the gossip on how it's all going?

Sara was working in Sydney for the Gazal Corporation before she became redundant last year. It was divine timing as the ' Holy Grail' had just launched and Sara was trying her luck to find her next big break in Fashion. At the panel interview held in Sydney in early October 2007 Sara was a stand out. She attended the interview in a stylish Cue shirt and skirt, fashionable heels and fresh make-up. During the group tasks she took clear leadership roles and showed innovation in her responses to the judges challenging questions.

It was in the one on one that Sara really impressed. She was keen, focused and determined about her future. She came with some experience and knowledge that could expand her into the role of an assistant buyer and she was committed to move to Melbourne.

When we rang Sara to let her know she was in the top 5 she was in shock. With only 2 weeks to prepare for Australia's longest fashion interview Sara was keen to ensure that her experience in Melbourne was memorable. From our perspective you could see that Sara had meticulously packed her bag with her latest and most fashionable pieces to impress not only the panel but also her future boss Judy Coomber the Director of Womenswear Buying at Myer. As the judges were watching every step of the way Sara needed to ensure she gave the right impression at every moment.

Sara impressed, she was articulate, direct and consistent with her answers and displayed total commitment to a role in Buying. She was one of the lucky 'extras' As Sara impressed so much she was awarded a prize that before she walked into the corridors of Myer was not for the taking!

So when we recently caught up with Sara we wanted to know how she was going! Sara's experience so far has been the reality of fashion buying itself. Fast paces, full of learning and intense. She has expressed to that while she is always learning, making decisions and meeting deadlines constantly challenges her. She loves the product aspects, catalogue coordination and supplier contact. The job at Myer has taught her so much and she has a true appreciation of the real pace and challenges in working in a buying office and she loves it! Sara is missing her family and friends and cruises down to the Internet cafe at lunchtime to send emails and catch up but the career move is what it's all about and so far she is thriving on the challenge and pace...
