We are loving upcoming designer Bianca Spender. Bianca started working at her mum, Carla Zampatti's, company from age 12 until she left for college at 21. Her first independent job was in Italy, where she was an apprentice for a patternmaker. As the general junior this involved sewing twoiles, tracing and cutting patterns, observing her employer in patternmaking and fittings. Bianca says there is a lot to learn about what goes on behind the scenes.
There are a lot of talented, intelligent designers that she admires, however the designers, labels that inspire Bianca the most are Lanvin, Comme des Garcons, Marni and Dries van Noten. She considers them to be the pioneers of fashion and Balenciaga, Vionnet and Poiret masters of cut and style.
When we asked her how she started her own label, this is what Bianca said " I started working with Carla five years ago. My collections were well received and after two and a half years we decided to launch ‘Bianca Spender for Carla Zampatti'."
For those starting out on the road to success in the fashion industry Bianca's advice is that one should try and experience as much as you can! Fashion is a multi faceted industry, be involved in any way you can from retail to design as all of the different levels will teach you how to grow and what you should develop.
"There is a lot to observe and learn from people who are experienced."
