Fleur Wood Learn from those who have made it...
RagtradeJobs.com talks to Designer Fleur Wood

Fleur Wood is an Australian success story. Known worldwide for her contemporary bohemian edge every creation is designed to feel luxurious but Fleur has a strong ethical persona too, giving a percentage of her profits to charities in India.

Fleur’s inspiration is a combination of today’s trends combined with style from yesterday. She incorporates the styles from the Paris flea markets as well as colours and textiles from India. So who inspires Fleur most – ‘I simply love Dries Van Noten, he has a unique style that he sticks with and keeps his line fresh and inspiring..’

Fleur’s first job in the trade was working for Jigsaw when she was 19. Working as a Sales Assistant Fleur knew she was in the industry she loved and was determined to start her own label. At twenty-three she took two years out and lived in a nunnery in the Indian Himalayas designing ranges for a culture-preservation project of the Tibetan exile government. Upon returning to Sydney she launched her own label. She continues to travel extensively throughout India and Europe, meeting up with hand embroiders in Delhi, drawing inspiration from flea markets in Paris and the heartbeat of New York.

So what is Fleur’s best advice for those with a ‘passion for fashion’... Work hard!
