The principles of fashion and architecture go hand in hand, for young designer Gary Yang. Yang's designs embody his innate sensitivity for the structural form along with the theories of architecture. The Gary Yang collection captures the attitude and sensuality of the modern day woman.
WHERE DID YOU START YOUR CAREER? I started my fashion career after working in the architectural field for few years (I majored architecture at university). I guess there is a point in your life when you decide to pursue your passion and for me that has always been fashion. Studying architectural has broadened my sense of design concept and philosophy and it often plays a strong influence on my designs: proportion, shapes, construction and materials. WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR JOB? There are many things about my job that I love and appreciate. To submerge myself into the world of endless possibilities and imagination is a luxury that I treasure. I am thankful for the amazing people that I meet and the wonderful places that I travel to. But most importantly I am doing the things that make me happy and satisfied. TELL US ABOUT YOUR AVERAGE DAY, WHAT DO YOU DO? Reading emails, researching, planning, sketching, flipping through magazines, meetings...etc. Things you do to running a fashion business. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER SOMEONE WANTING A CAREER IN FASHION? Listen to your own instinct and LEARN FAST. There will be ups and downs but always remind yourself why you are doing it. IS IT WHAT YOU KNOW OR WHO YOU KNOW? I think it's not what you know or who you know but it's ‘to know' - to know what you want. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
