Nick Lord

Name: Nick Lord

Job title: Creative Director

Who is the power player behind the Cotton On groups product?  Well he's not exactly a power player...  he's just a great guy.  That's Nick by the way,  the guy with the hat!

The Cotton On Group is a larger than life retail giant that is rocking the local and international fashion scene.  The business was born in Australia and has grown to over 650 stores throughout Australia, NZ, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the USA.

With the Aussie brand still growing, one guy who knows fashion inside and out is Cotton On (Body and Rubi) Creative Director Nick Lord.

WHERE DID YOU START YOUR CAREER?

I started my career around 18 years ago at David Jones.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR JOB?

The people and places!  I work with a young team of people who area constant source inspiration and fun. I also enjoy the travel that my position allows me - I get to travel and work with different teams all over the world.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR AVERAGE DAY, WHAT DO YOU DO?

Honestly... That's hard to put down in a few lines! In a nutshell, I am responsible for the creative and visual image of Cotton on, Body & Rubi

Shoes. I communicate to the public; the attitude of the brands and the flavour of each season.

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DREAD DOING?

I could possibly do with going to fewer meetings!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER SOMEONE WANTING A CAREER IN FASHION?

Go for it! Be adventurous, but listen carefully to those who went before you. Remain true to yourself, and have a vision.

IS IT WHAT YOU KNOW OR WHO YOU KNOW?

A bit of both. Knowledge is power... But friends can also help you get where you need to go.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Music and popular media. I am a media junky - I will quite often be found, surrounded by magazines, laptop open & TV on absorbing all that is around me. I think it is so important to be up to date with the culture around us...What's new? Who's doing what? Where is the latest trend developing? Music to me is the greatest release - I can't imagine a life with out it. It inspires so many things, but I particularly like the visual element of modern music and how those visuals can help you connect with it.
